Final Friendly Won before Cologne

Village Manchester FC took apart local opposition with a comfortable 5-1 victory in their final friendly before heading to Cologne at the end of July.

Both Village teams have been warming up for the 8th Gay Games in Cologne next month by competing in a series of friendlies against local and GFSN teams in June and July.

The first team have hit good scoring form and gradually improved defensive displays with a 5-5 draw and 5-2 and 3-1 wins in the past three weeks.

They finished off with a 5-1 win on July 20th, with Sam Connell, Alex Kirkham, Damien Mooney and Ian James-Freddie all on the scoresheet.

The second team have also been scoring for fun, putting eight goals past both Mersey Maurauders and a weakened Nottingham Ball Bois team.

Penalty shoot-out practice has had mixed results, which you can see in the You Tube videos from the villagemanchesterfc channel below.

Village have been happy to welcome in Ian James-Freddie and Jonathan Frost from Yorkshire Terriers in recent weeks, while James Williams and Damien Mooney have also recently arrived from Nottingham and Merseyside, respectively.

The club are taking over 30 players to Cologne in a bit to combat the tough schedule, which demands playing two or three times per day. Roll-on roll-off substitutes are permitted.

Village's first team will compete in Division One, while the second team will face several English clubs in Division Two. The full team listings are below.

Final training sessions will take place over the next week before VMFC fly out on Friday July 30th. Wish our boys luck!
