VMFC heads north east for GFSN Cup
27 August 2014
Village Manchester head to the north east of England at the end of September as they take on Newcastle Panthers (again!) in the round of 16 of the GFSN Cup.
Village twice travelled to home of Ant and Dec, Cheryl Fernandez Versini and Newcastle Brown Ale last season as they saw off the Panthers in the same round last season, then headed up a month later to see off Leicester Widecats in the Quarter final as part of GFSN's winter get together.
Last season’s victory over the Geordies saw Village produce one of their best performances of the 2013/2014 season. They raced into a 7-0 lead at half time and were able to take their foot of the pedal in the second half. Holmes and Langford both got a brace whilst Edwards, Clayton and Jones joined them on the scoresheet. An own goal compounded the misery for the overwhelmed hosts.
With the city beginning to feel like a second home, Village will be hopeful of another strong performance and positive result to take them into the next round of the cup. Last season the club were beaten finalists as they were defeated 4-2 by London Romans in the impressive surroundings of St George’s Park – England Football Association's national football centre.
The match against Newcastle will kick off at 2pm on Saturday 27 September at Northumbria University’s Coach Lane Campus. This will be followed by a night out on the Toon as Village attempt to show their skills not only on the pitch but also at the bar and on the dancefloor!
