Match report:

Lawds v VMFC1

Sunday 19 February 2012

On a day where BBC Sport travelled down to Wythenshawe as part of a news report on homophobia in football, both VMFC teams returned to winning ways.

The morning's match saw Village's first team defeat Lawds for the second time this season in a hard-fought match that could have gone either way.

After Damien Mooney latched on to a long pass from Jez Ure to put Manchester 1-0 up in the first half, Lawds drew level from the penalty spot early in the second half. Village re-took the lead after an hour with Mooney again the scorer but Lawds upped the pressure and scored a deserved equaliser minutes later.

The final ten minutes saw VMFC regain their composure and a perfect corner from substitute Ryan O'Connor allowed Ure to head in the winning goal with a few minutes to go.

Alex Wilson enjoyed a fine full debut for the first team, while Steve Clayton continued to make his comeback from injury with performances in both matches.
