Match report:
VMFC1 v Trinity
Sunday 9 September 2012
The morning saw the first team in league action, anxious to mend the damage from an opening weekend which saw them lose 5-2 to PWC in a very rusty display that included a red card, two penalties and Ant Parkin making a trip to A&E with concussion.
Opponents Trinity won the first division last season and were somewhat of an unknown quantity. However, Village started brightly and dominated the first half, creating a series of chances from a variety of positions. A goal finally arrived shortly after half time when a fantastic cross from deep by James Hardern made its way to Damien Mooney, who calmly finished. Sadly, things fell apart in the final half hour with Trinity scoring twice on the counter and Village's passing game suffering with tiredness.
The final scoreline of 1-2 was harsh given the effort put into the game. However, there were plenty of positives to take away that will put the team in good shape for the coming months, and it's good to see some new faces breaking into the squad from the 2nd team.
