Match report:

VMFC2 v Gorton Community

Sunday 9 September 2012

The afternoon's fixture pitted VMFC's 2nd team a pre-season friendly against last season's Central League runners-up, Gorton. Things got off to a great start when James Nelson's low cross was finished by Steven Holmes in the first two minutes of the game and there was a good energy throughout the first half hour. Gorton got an equaliser shortly before half time but Village took the lead again after an hour when Jeremy Baker converted from Sal Alyami's pass. A lack of sharpness certainly told in the last half hour as more mistakes and less concentration led to Gorton scoring twice and taking home a 3-2 win.

The scoreline was largely irrelevant as the target for the game was simply to get everyone as much time on the pitch as possible. There was certainly no faulting the effort on show but we'll need to improve fitness levels in the next few weeks with the league season only two weeks away.
