Match report:

VMFC1 v Lawds

Sunday 7 October 2012

The 1st team welcomed back Simon, Craig and Paul for the morning fixture against Lawds. Previous encounters between the two sides have been very close, with the most recent match seeing Lawds come from 2-0 down to put Village out of last year's league cup on penalties. However, there was only one team in the first half as Village passed the ball and moved quickly in a way that hasn't been seen for quite some time. After two crosses just failed to be connected with, Alex Wilson got his first goal of the season, cutting inside onto his left foot and drilling a low shot in off the near post.

Further chances fell VMFC's way and Lawds were delighted to go into half time only 1-0 down. The 2nd half was much more even, with the opposition seeing more of the ball but failing to test Craig up to the hour mark. However, the final 30 minutes saw both teams go close on a number of occasions. The ball broke from a Lawds corner and a shot from the edge of the area was deflected just wide, while another long range shot was deflected onto the bar. Both goalkeepers exchanged saves and Duncan's 25 yard shot went narrowly wide.

VMFC's defence was finally breached with ten minutes to go when a clearance from a Lawds corner fell to the edge of the area and a low shot was diverted in to give Craig no chance.

Post-match, Village reflected on an excellent first half display, though there is still work to be done on second half performances after seeing another lead slip away. The next match is in two weeks against leaders, Miam Miam Celtic.
