Match report:

VMFC1 v Deloitte

Sunday 4 November 2012

Village continued their unbeaten run with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Deloitte on Sunday.

With several of last week's team on family duty, manager Jason returned to duty between the sticks for the second time this season, while Pete and Sal came in to midfield and defence, respectively.

As has been typical of recent performances, Village had by far the best of the first half and an energetic opening spell saw Alex burst down the left wing before cutting the ball back for Goldsie, who hit a stunning shot into the top corner of the goal from the edge of the area to make it 1-0.

Long-range attempts from Paul and Jay both had the Deloitte keeper concerned and the opposition area was regularly peppered with a series of crosses through to half time.

It was no surprise that the second half was more even. Deloitte had an unbeaten record to protect and they pushed further up the pitch in a bid to put more pressure on the VMFC midfield. Fortunately, Village stood firm at the back and Jason's only save of note came from a free kick that was comfortably dealt with. There were a couple of late scares with Pete clearing a header off the line and, with the last kick of the game, another header hitting the top of the bar, but the overall balance of the game was in Manchester's favour and they could be proud of the 1-0 win.

The day's other fixtures saw Miam Miam suffer their first defeat of the season to Trinity while South Manchester went top of the league with a 7-1 win over third-placed Iraq FC. Next week's fixture sees Village take on Saints.
