Match report:

VMFC2 v Baptist Academy

Sunday 4 November 2012

The 2nd team's fixture list has seen them drawn twice against all of the top three before they've had a chance to take on anyone else in the league this season. This run continued with last year's champions, Baptist Academy, as the latest opposition. Once again, a series of changes were required as Pete and Jason returned to 1st team duty and Jeremy and Alex were missing. However, it did mean a return to action for Ant, Rob, Jordan and Johnathan, while there was a debut for our new man from France, Alex, who impressed in training during the week.

Village were determined to compete in the first half and things were very even for the first 20 minutes. Alex, Steven and Jordan all looked lively and Alex dragged one shot marginally wide and hit the post 10 minutes later. However, Baptist had a big slice of bad luck when a deflection sent James completely the wrong way for their first and they gradually wore Manchester down to score a well taken second before half time.

To worsen matters, the floodlights failed for fifteen minutes before the second half started with everyone nice and cold. The Academy took advantage of VMFC looking like they'd frozen up and their pressure was rewarded with a penalty when Spence couldn't quite get his arm out of the way of a shot quickly enough. Baptist managed to add two more before the final whistle.

Things are pretty tough for the seconds at the moment, especially for the forward players. However, manager Matt is firm that the squad is slowly developing as a team and they will compete given time. "Once upon a time these are the sort of results the first team experienced week in week out but the club is what it is because we stuck at it and are now one of the most respected team in the Accountants league. We need to look at where the club has been previously and realise that nothing worth achieving is done overnight."
