Match report:

Miam Miam Celtic v VMFC1

Sunday 23 November 2014

Village Manchester succumbed to a 3-0 defeat as Miam Miam Celtic got the better of them in an encounter at the University Pitches in Wythenshawe.

With Connell absent due to family commitments, club stalwart Ure was in charge of the team for the day. Crosby was retained in goal with Edwards, Wilson and Ure helping him protect his 18 yard box. Holmes started as left wing back with Fairbrohter on the right and Mullender, Reece and Archer took charge of the middle of the park. Mooney made a return as he joined Bolgar up front. New boy Leech joined McPherson on the bench.

Miam Miam started the game on the front foot and Ure had to make a smart block as he got in the way of a goal bound shot to deflect it wide. With 10 minutes gone, the opposition came even closer as they hit the right hand post and Crosby did well to parry the follow up.

Miam Miam started to pepper to goal a little and they soon got their goal with 35 minutes gone. A cross was delivered in and an opposition striker got his head to the ball before the onrushing Crosby to put them one up. 1-0

Village rallied in the final five minutes and had two chances in quick succession. Firstly, Fairbrother had his shot held by the keeper from Reece’s throw in then Wilson headed just over as he got on the end of Fairbrother’s cross as the wing back found some space with a great turn.

The half time whistle soon sounded with Village one behind.

Half time: Miam Miam Celtic 1-0 Village Manchester

Crosby was called into action 10 minutes into the second half as he fielded a strong shot from Miam’s number 5.

Ure attempted to mix things up as he brought Leech on for Mullender on the hour mark.

But Miam Miam soon got their second as they made their way down their left until they got to the byline. A smart pull back found an opposition striker free in the box and he coolly slotted home. 2-0

This goal kicked Village into life again and they soon had chances of their own to reduce the deficit. Bolgar had a shot deflected over as the ball found its way to his feet from a clever lay off after a corner had been delivered. With 15 minutes left another Fairbrother shot was deflected away from the goal by the keeper and Village knew it would not be their day as Bolgar’s follow up was somehow deflected over the bar by a great goal line deflection.

With 10 minutes left, Miam Miam put the game to bed as they nodded a near post corner home. 3-0

Village had the last attempt on goal of the game as Reece’s shot was saved by the keeper following Archer’s ball over the top.

Village will look to get back to winning ways next Sunday as they face fourth placed South Manchester at the GM Police Sports & Social Club.
