Meet

James

November 2015 featured player: James Cole

Name:

James Cole

Real age:

32, since it'll be at least November before anyone reads this.

Grindr age:

Are you suggesting I might not be proud of my ever increasing wisdom and grouchiness?

Home town:

Bath, or Bristol. Halfway between the two, to be precise.

When did you join VMFC:

August 2014.

Former clubs, if any:

None to speak of.

Greatest Village moment:

Finally winning a game I played in, a whole year after joining the side. To be fair I was injured for six months my first season.

What club do you support:

Nottingham Forest.

Favourite Village bar:

The Molly House is nice enough, but if I'm out you're more likely to find me in Fab Cafe or an old man pub somewhere.

What do you do for a living:

In my dreams: writing. In reality: a temp with way too much responsibility.

Do you participate in any other sports:

I think 'participate' is a very strong word for what I do. I go running when the mood takes me, and I enjoy a knockabout on the tennis courts behind my house. My main non-football sporting focus is Formula 1, which is the best soap opera in the world, occasionally interrupted by motor races.

What else do you do to relax:

Read, write, go for long walks, bake, wind people up. Not necessarily in this order.

Current favourite song:

Faster – Manic Street Preachers.

Current favourite TV show:

GBBO or maybe Doctor Who. If I'm honest, University Challenge is up there too. I'm that guy.

All time favourite film:

Chinatown, Alien, or The Sweet Hereafter. I can't pick one.

Relationship status:

Buoyant.

Favourite footballer (for football reasons):

Stuart Pearce or Andrea Pirlo.

Favourite footballer (not for football reasons):

): It used to be Torres, but I'm not really sure any more. Jamie Paterson has his moments.

Preferred position (on the pitch!):

I always have fun up front, but being somewhat talent limited I'm content to play in one of the positions where the main job is to stay between the opponent and the goal and try to put as much of myself in the way as possible if they attempt a shot.

Describe your playing style:

Unfocused but slowly improving.

Premiership player your style most matches:

I can safely say there is not a single player of my calibre in the Premier League.

What made you want to try VMFC out for the first time:

I wanted to play football again, simple as that. I almost joined the year before but chickened out because I'm a bit shy. I really shouldn't have worried!

Why should new players join VMFC:

It's really friendly, full of great people, welcomes absolutely anybody, and can be relied upon for a big night out if that's your thing. Plus you get fitness and football, and the chance to travel the country and the globe meeting new people and (hopefully) smashing loads of goals past them.
