VMFC Success in Copenhagen

17 November 2005

VMFC continued to build on previous achievements by reaching the 2005 IGLFA World Championship Final held at the home ground of Danish First Division side Valby FC in Copenhagen.

by Jason McAuley

In a close match that saw Village take a 1-0 lead into the break only for opponents Paris to hit back with an equaliser on the hour.

Despite what looked like a perfectly good Village FC goal by Williams being ruled out by the linesman for an apparent foul on the keeper who went AWOL 30 yards from his goal line and a strong penalty claim for a foul on Johnson with 5 minutes remaining, Paris eventually took the title, winning 4-2 on a penalty shoot out after extra time could not separate the teams.

Although losing in this manner was a cruel blow for everyone’s efforts, the entire club is proud of what has been achieved in such a short space of time. Onwards and upwards!
