VMFC nominated for two Manchester FA awards

17 November 2017
Everyone at VMFC was delighted to that we were nominated in two categories at this year's Manchester FA Grassroots Awards.
The first team was nominated in the category of Best Male Team, after their 2016/17 season in which they joined the Lancashire & Cheshire League, the first time we'd played in a Saturday league. After a slow start, the team didn't lose a game from December onwards, and steadily climbed the league table to finish the season in second place and promotion.
Elsewhere in the club, we put effort into marking Football Versus Homophobia month, played in an international tournament in Miami, and organised the largest ever Gay Football Supporters' Network (GFSN) summer tournament, with twice as many teams as the previous year.
Unfortunately the team was beaten to the award by Dom Doyle FC, a club formed in 2015 in memory of Dominic, who died in mass fight.
But, the club was successful with its second nomination, with Treasurer & Communications Officer Steve Joyce winning the award for Volunteer of the Year. Steve, who in addition to his official roles also organised the GFSN tournament and accidentally ended up organising the trip to Miami, was delighted, commented "Pleasing".
